JOIN THE "NEW BOOKS" MAILING LIST !!!
Graff Library receives weekly lists of book suggestions from the vendor, Majors Scientific Books. Librarians choose carefully according to subject and what is already in the library’s collection. The library also invites suggestions for new books from COH faculty, researchers, and staff. We prepare monthly lists of the new books, sorted by call number. A large COH mailing list already receives these regular listings.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE ADDED TO THE MAILING LIST for "New Books" please send a message to library@coh.org and we will be happy to add your name.

PloS
Medicine and news@nature.com
Added to Library Subscriptions
PloS Medicine is an Open Access journal. The publisher, Public Library of Science (PloS) describes it thus:
PLoS
Medicine believes that medical research is an
international public resource. The journal provides an open-access venue
for important, peer-reviewed advances in all disciplines. With the
ultimate aim of improving human health, we encourage research and
comment that address the global burden of disease.
Graff Library has it in print and also online.
News@nature.com can be reached through a button on the front page of the NATURE journal website (listed under Current Journals on the library website), or as a link on the Biomedical Databases list, also on the library website. Searches for news items can be restricted to “Biotechnology,” “Drug discovery” and “Medical research.”
Whats new/ 2-9-2005 CITY OF HOPE HOLDINGS NOW IN PUBMED When searching MEDLINE through the PubMed interface, you will now see the City of Hope logo alongside titles that you pick. This is a link that shows our print holdings of that title. In addition, if Graff Library subscribes to the online version of the journal, you will go straight to the article. Note that there is some “free” full text in PubMed, but most of what you find is available because Graff Library subscribes and it is “IP-verified” – if you are coming from a COH computer, the full text is provided. For a complete list of journals to which we subscribe, see the “Current Journals” list on the library website: http://library.coh.org Whats new/ 12-21-2004 NEW ONLINE JOURNALS ! There are now hundreds of new online journals accessible at City of Hope. Graff Library belongs to the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium, or "SCELC." SCELC has negotiated deals with a number of publishers so that all the libraries in the consortium have access to everyone’s online subscriptions. For a small additional charge based on our own subscriptions, we have access to some of the online journals at USC, Caltech, The Claremont Colleges, Scripps Research Institute, and many other universities, colleges, and institutes around the state. This access may be transparent to you as a user. You may go to the Graff Library website (http://library@coh.org - or click on "Graff Library" on the Intranet) and search for a journal. However, if you are searching MEDLINE and click on a link, if Graff Library has access you will be taken directly to the publisher’s site and be able to retrieve full text. We are often asked why a journal is available on campus but not from home: the answer probably is that you have tried a journal to which we have access either through our own subscription or through SCELC. You will get in from the COH network, but not from outside, because these titles are "IP-verified" and must be reached from a COH computer. We invite your comments and hope you enjoy this additional service. Whats new/ 11-2-2004 “New Books at Graff Library” – a New Service
Every week, librarians receive a suggested list of new books from Graff Library’s book vendor. The list is based on a “profile” of the topics in which we are interested. Would you like to be the first to know what we have acquired? We can send you regular notices of what we have bought, and you can be the first to borrow the books. Send us an email and we will put you on the list to receive the news that we have the latest in “Chemotherapy for Gynecological Neoplasms” or “Oncology Nursing in the Ambulatory Setting” or “Bioinformatics: Sequence and Genome Analysis.” Send an email to library@coh.org and tell us: “Put me on the New Books list.”
Whats New/ 8-25-2004 "RECENT LIBRARY ACQUISITIONS" Regular visitors to the library website may have noticed some changes. Our new Integrated Library System is now in operation and the new features include a regularly-updated list of books we have received. Click on "RECENT LIBRARY ACQUISITIONS" to see the latest. Take a look at the new online catalog: you can now look up your own record (you will need your Employee ID as a "barcode"). You may place a hold on a book you would like to check out. |
